Mt Maria College student Grace Elliott is warming up for the trip of a lifetime, after being selected to perform with the Voices of Birralee on the 25th of April in Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Year 11 student Grace, who has been a member of the Voices of Birralee for the last 5 years, has been selected to perform at the Anzac Day Dawn Service and Commemoration of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux at the Australian National Memorial, France.

Voices of Birralee is a Brisbane based non-profit child and youth choral organisation founded in 1995 which has gained a reputation for its leading choirs, that have performed in front of audiences in both Australia and across the world.

Voices of Birralee’s Anzac Choir is by invitation only, a small number of Birralee members aged between 15 and 16 are selected to sing at the event.
Grace says to be chosen is an incredible honour, and she feels very grateful to be given the opportunity to represent Australia on an international level.

“In going to France to perform, I feel a responsibility to represent all of those affected by war, including retired and current service men and women,” Grace said.

“I am also honoured to be representing the Defence Families within the Mt Maria College Community, including the Mt Maria families who are spread around Australia.”

Grace will be travelling to Villers-Bretonneux with the Birralee Choir, who have made this once in a lifetime opportunity a reality for the 16-year-old.

“I believe the impact of words through song is extremely powerful and I’ll be singing for all members of the ADF both past and present and their families.”

Grace will also join Voices of Birralee as they travel through Croatia, Austria and Venice before the trip culminates with the Anzac Choir performance in France.

Grace’s journey begins on April 5.
