On Friday November 9, Mt Maria celebrated the great achievements of our students over the past year as part of an Archdiocesan-wide celebration called Remarkable Moments. Remarkable Moments acknowledges and celebrates the collective effort of students, teachers, parents and Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) office staff to grow the engagement, progress, achievement and wellbeing of every learner in literacy and numeracy. Mr Peter Hill from Brisbane Catholic Education joined us at Assembly to present awards to some of our students to highlight literacy achievements.
Principal Glenn McConville said that improving student literacy and writing skills had been at the forefront of the College's focus over the last few years. "This year we set specific targets in Year 7-10 for writing achievement against a scaled benchmark for work that was marked (and then cross marked) by teachers on four separate occasions this year," Mr McConville said.
"As a result, we not only achieved these benchmarks, we exceeded them - which is tremendous news!"
"The students and staff really do deserve our congratulations for this excellent work and improvement in learning," said Mr MrConville.
