Congratulations to Year 11 students, Harris Aldridge and Jasmine Ruane, who performed at the State Heats of Rockfest at Woodridge State High School on Monday afternoon (20/5/19). The competition was attended by more than 15 schools spanning across the Brisbane and Toowoomba region. Harris and Jasmine won the Best Duo/Solo category, with Harris also taking home the Best Guitarist award.
Rockfest is a national schools competition focussed on giving high school students the opportunity to perform contemporary music live in front of their peers, friends and teachers and also compete through heats for a place in the state final with some great awards and prizes on offer.
Harris and Jasmine performed three songs as part of their entry; 'Sultans of Swing' by Dire Straits, 'I See Fire' by Ed Sheeran and 'Georgia' by Vance Joy.
Music Program Leader, Ms Alex Khafagi, said that the audience response to Harris and Jasmine's performance was tremendous.
"Harris and Jasmine played tremendously well, and the crowd response was massive," said Ms Khafagi.
"They should be very proud of their performance - they even had audience members asking when their next gig is!"
When asked about what comes next for the duo, Harris kept it pretty simple.
"We just want to keep playing music," said Harris.
