Our Year 10 Civics and Citizenship class visited the Supreme Court and Parliament House last week where they were greeted by a few famous faces. After a personal tour of the Supreme Court by Ms Kirsten Murray, the Community Education Coordationar, the students participated in a mock trial. During the trial, the students had the opportunity to play the Judge, accused, correctional officers, lawyers, baliff and jurors, learning valuable skills for their legal studies. The students then visited Parliament House where they were able to see first-hand the link between the legislative and the judicial. While the students were visiting Parliament House, they were lucky enough to the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC. The Governor even tweeted about his meeting with our students to his thousands of Twitter followers! What a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students, and an awesome learning experience!
